Plain but practical

To celebrate National Underwear Day, I'd like to delve a little bit into what makes certain types of underwear practical and comfortable for women in their daily lives. Most of the time when you see me in my underwear, I'll be wearing some sexy lingerie which prioritises aesthetics over practicality. But let's not kid ourselves into thinking that that is the norm. Far from it. Most of the time, the sensible choice for everyday life is far less glamourous.

For starters, when it comes to everyday underwear, the choice of fabric plays a crucial role in comfort. Cotton is a popular option because it is breathable, hypoallergenic, and excellent at absorbing moisture. This makes it ideal for daily wear, providing a fresh and comfortable feel throughout the day.

Other fabrics like microfiber and modal also offer great benefits. Microfiber is smooth, lightweight, and often has moisture-wicking properties, making it suitable for active lifestyles. Modal, on the other hand, is incredibly soft, breathable, and durable, ensuring long-lasting comfort.

It's also worth mentioning, bamboo fabric, which is known for being eco-friendly and adds a soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking option into the mix, making it a comfortable and sustainable choice.

Of course, the fit and cut of the underwear are every bit as important as the fabric. Everyday underwear should have a snug but not too tight waistband and leg openings to prevent irritation and discomfort. Designs with flat seams or seamless construction are preferred to minimize chafing and visible panty lines. Comfortable and practical underwear styles for daily wear often include bikinis, boyshorts, briefs, and hipsters.

Bikini styles offer a balanced mix of comfort and style, providing moderate coverage suitable for most body types and outfits. Boyshorts provide full coverage and often avoid VPL, making them great for wearing under skirts, dresses, and loose-fitting pants. Briefs, particularly high-waisted ones, provide additional tummy support and are ideal for those who prefer more coverage. Hipsters sit comfortably on the hips, offering good coverage and a secure fit without riding up, making them suitable for a variety of outfits.

In contrast, lingerie often focuses more on aesthetics and sensual appeal rather than day-to-day practicality. Lingerie is typically made from luxurious fabrics such as silk, satin, lace, and mesh, which may not be as breathable or absorbent as cotton or microfiber. The fit and design of lingerie prioritize allure, featuring intricate details like lace trims, ribbons, and sometimes more revealing cuts that might not provide the same level of comfort or coverage as practical underwear.

So, it should come as no surprise that lingerie pieces such as thongs, garter belts, and corsets, which are designed to enhance the wearer's silhouette, are often reserved for special occasions rather than daily wear due to their less practical nature.

In summary, practical underwear for daily use emphasizes comfort, breathability, and fit. These garments provide the necessary support and coverage for everyday activities, unlike lingerie, which focuses more on visual appeal and is typically worn for special occasions. Finding the right balance between practicality and comfort ensures that women can go about their day with confidence and ease.
