Masturbation defined by real people

After doing my research for what various dictionaries define as masturbation, it occurred to me that it may also be worth taking a look at less formalised definitions of masturbation that provide a genuine real world view of what actual people think about the topic. 

If you are looking for definitions that are looking for community contributed definitions to get some insight on a matter, then surely there is no better place to look than the Urban Dictionary!

As is often the case, the Urban Dictionary has a plethora of different definitions for masturbation that occupy the entire spectrum of usefulness. However, I think it is fair to say that whether they are written seriously or in jest, they all contain some undeniable truth.

"To please oneself while arousing sexual feelings, usually by rubbing, touching, and inserting one's fingers or other device in themselves in the case of a female. Usually accompanied by some sort of visual, audio, or mental help"

Whilst each of these do contain some truth, really they are pretty poor at helping me make up my mind about what really counts as masturbation. In the end, I think I will stick with my existing stance that masturbation is simply the act of self-pleasuring and can be performed in any way you want really. 

But what do you think? Am I right to include toy-assisted self-pleasuring as acts of masturbation? Or should I only count sessions that purely involve my fingers? Let me know by leaving a comment!
