Smart and Sexy Day

It would be easy to reduce the notion of Smart and Sexy Day to simply celebrating the sexy librarian stereotype. Whilst there is nothing wrong with that image that you are probably picturing in your head right about now, it is important to remember that the way women dress can be a strong expression of both capability and femininity. Brains and beauty are a powerful combination and there is absolutely no reason why women cannot possess both at the same time.

On Smart and Sexy Day, the Alliance for Career Development Nonprofits (ACDN), promote women putting their best forward to make the right impression to advance their careers.

In particular, it is about empowering those that are struggling to get their careers off the ground or who have become stuck in unemployment, with the ACDN putting on events to give women clothes and training that will get them moving in the right direction.

Of course, the ACDN is not just about women but, on this one day, they become the focus of the organisation and the need to equip them with the tools they need to make the best possible impression in front of the right audience. Above, it is about building their self-confidence so they have the best possible chance to grasp any opportunity that comes along.

On a personal note, I feel it is also a good time to send a message that beautiful women should not be under-estimated or dismissed as simply a pretty face. Too often women are judged purely on looks and are seen as nothing more than sexual objects. It is about time we moved passed such attitudes and everyone acknowledges that a woman's worth should not be determined by her looks but by what she can do.
